More about us
The Angel Zaberski Quartet is composed of the prominent Bulgarian jazz performers Angel Zaberski – son (piano), Misho Yosifov (trumpet), Stoyan Yankolov – Stundzhi (percussion) and Boris Taslev (bass). The audience in Bulgaria and all over the world is familiar with both their joint and individual work in various projects covering the whole palette of jazz music. The formation has had a lot of successful performances here and abroad. One of Angel Zaberski Quartet most memorable performances is at the European Days of Culture festival in Frankfurt (Germany) in 2014. where the band brought the audience to their feet at the super cool Jazzkeller club. In the special programme the quartet presents original plays by Zaberski among which are ‘Memories from Strandzha’ and ‘Sladka Chubritsa‘ inspired by the Bulgarian folklore. The pianist inherent professionalism helps him to skillfully combine the original Bulgarian rhythm and melodies with the freedom of jazz improvisation. The programme is complemented by the title ‘You have to tell me’, ‘Hip-hop Reggae’ and Misho Yosifov’s play – ‘Balkan voyage’. Other compositions have been added containing elements of swing, funk and latino, presented in perfect harmony by the five musicians. The formation has had many successful performances here and abroad so far.

Stoyan Yankulov – Stundzhi plays equally well in the Bulgarian folklore and jazz, as well as in the pop and rock field. He is an extraordinary instrumentalist with an enviable creative biography. Yankulov is a laureate of numerous jazz awards and has a huge contribution in the field of art and promoting Bulgarian culture around the world. Music critics say that his music style is unique since he manages to make percussion instruments sound like an orchestra so listeners have the impression that more than percussionist is playing.
Boris Taslev – this is the bass player who is part of the generation of young Bulgarian musicians to leave a lasting mark in our jazz stage. He plays in A. L. Webber musicals such as: Jesus Christ Superstar, Evita, Cats and Miss Saigon (a musical by Claude-Michel Schönberg), as well as in some musical-stage performance by Bulgarian authors. His diverse concert and recording work includes jazz, pop, latino and classical music; he is the preferred choice for different acoustic and electronic projects of many jazz and folklore musicians. He has taken part in festivals in Bulgaria and around the world. He plays with some of the most popular jazz names of Bulgaria and abroad.
Mihail Yosifov is one of the most active and successful Bulgarian jazz musicians. Apart from playing the trumpet for more than 25 years now he is also a teacher, a composer and an arranger. He has taken part in the creation of several music projects, he writes music for films and theatrical performances and of course for his own jazz formation – Mihail Yosifov sextet. He has played with musicians such as Mike Stern, Dave Weckl, „Mezzoforte“, “Dephazz“, Peter Herbolzheimer, Karen Bernod, Milcho Leviev, Theodosii Spassov, Angel Zaberski, Antoni Donchev, Hristo Yotsov.
